In the first Wimbledon final featuring two unseeded players, Richard Krajicek of the Netherlands overpowered American MaliVai Washington to win the men's title, 6-3, 6-4, 6-3. The hard-serving Krajicek was too tough throughout, as the players weathered more rain delays at soggy Wimbledon.
Graf Wins 7th Wimbledon Title Steffi Graf earned her seventh Wimbledon title today by defeating Arantxa Sanchez Vicario, 6-3, 7-5. The title was Graf's 20th Grand Slam championship and the 100th singles title of her career. Graf, afflicted by cold and sinus problems, was in complete control before Sanchez Vicario mounted a late rally. But a key break by Graf put her back in control and she eventually won the 1-hour 28-minute match on Centre Court. Get more information from the official Wimbledon site.
Steffi Heading Into a Racket
For Steffi Graf, the months ahead may not be filled with tournament titles and big paychecks. In early September, her father will go on trial in Germany for tax fraud, and many wonder whether Peter Graf's daughter will join him as a defendant.
